Trace D. McRaney was born in Lucedale, Mississippi on June 7, 1968. He graduated from Bay High School in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi in 1986, with High Honors. Trace attended Pearl River Community College, where he lettered in varsity football and was listed in the Who’s Who Among Junior College Students. He then completed his undergraduate studies at Millsaps College, graduating cum laude in 1990, with a B.A. in History. Trace lettered in varsity football and played varsity baseball while at Millsaps College. He was also a member of Phi Alpha Theta, a history honorary, while at Millsaps. Trace attended the University of Mississippi School of Law and was a member of the Mississippi Law Journal from 1992-1994. In 1994, he obtained his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Trace joined the firm in 1998 and became a shareholder in 2002.

Trace is an approved attorney for the Mississippi Tort Claim Board Register and approved Mississippi counsel for  Louisiana Guaranty Insurance Association. In addition, he has represented numerous governmental entities, including counties (Hancock, Pearl River, Forrest and Harrison); school districts (Pearl River County School District, Lamar County School District, Jones County School District, Lawrence County School District, Harrison County School District, Moss Point Separate Municipal School District, Poplarville Separate Municipal School District, Columbia School District, and Stone County School District); the City of Gautier, Mississippi; and state agencies (Mississippi Transportation Commission and the Mississippi Department of Human Services).  Additionally, Trace has also been counsel for Cajun Connection Seafood.

Trace has also provided his services as an umpire in the Harrison/Hancock Baseball-Softball League. He was recognized as a community hero by East Hancock Elementary School in 2003. His volunteer efforts at Hancock North Central Elementary were also recognized in 2005. He has been active in the Kiln Athletic Association with girls' softball.

Trace is married to the former Wendy Shaw, and they have one daughter, Emma.
