Sul Ozerden was born December 5, 1966 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and grew up in Gulfport. He graduated Salutatorian in 1985 from Gulfport High School.

He obtained his undergraduate education at Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service, Washington, DC, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service, 1989, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He was a Finalist, Rhodes Scholarship Competition (1988-89). Sul was a four year Navy ROTC scholarship student, serving as Battalion Executive Officer (1989). Upon receiving his commission as a Naval Officer, he completed United States Navy Flight School in Pensacola, Florida, 1989-1990, and was designated a Naval Flight Officer.

Sul obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1998 from Stanford Law School, where he served as Associate Editor for the Stanford Law Review. He received the Johnson & Gibbs Law Review Award, Outstanding Contribution as an Associate Editor (1998) and was Co-Winner, Spring Term Writing Award, First Year Legal Writing Section (1996).

Sul is now a shareholder in the firm of Dukes, Dukes, Keating & Faneca, P.A. Prior to joining the firm, Sul held a Judicial Clerkship for the Honorable Eldon E. Fallon, United States District Judge, Eastern District of Louisiana, New Orleans, Louisiana.

Sul served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Navy from 1989 to 1995. His military service included: Naval Flight Officer/Bombardier-Navigator, A-6E Intruder; over 1,000 flight hours; Mission Commander qualified; two six-month Western Pacific deployments aboard the USS Kitty Hawk; Safety Department Head; Navy Commendation Medal for missions flown in Operation Restore Hope (Somalia) and Operation Southern Watch (Iraq); Navy Achievement Medal; and he was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Lieutenant (0-3).

Sul's dedication to community and civic causes resulted in his selection as one of the Top Ten South Mississippi Business Leaders Under 40 (2004). His past and continuing community/civic activities include: Graduate of Leadership Gulf Coast, Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce (2003); Chair-Elect of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce (2005); Executive Committee/Vice President of Public Affairs, Gulfport Chamber (2000-2003); Volunteer of the Year Award for 2003, Gulfport Chamber; Vice President of the Gulfport Business Club (2004-2005); Vestry Member, St. Peter's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church (2002-2004); Member of the Rotary Club of Gulfport (since 1999); Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of Gulfport; Mentor, Gulfport Public Schools (since 1999); and Eagle Scout, Boy Scout Troop 209, Gulfport, Mississippi.

Sul is married to the former Denise Dunaway, and they have one daughter, Vivian.
